United States, Canada and Mexico Conclude NAFTA Ministerial

Dallas, Texas - Today United States Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk met with Canada's Trade Minister Stockwell Day and Mexico's Secretary of the Economy Gerardo Ruiz Mateos to conduct the 2009 meeting of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Free Trade Commission.

"I am pleased that today we agreed to focus together on North American competiveness, regulatory cooperation and small- and medium-size businesses," said Kirk. "We also agreed to strengthen the relationship between the Free Trade Commission, the North American Commission for Labor Cooperation, and the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Additionally, we have designated senior officials within each of our agencies to enhance collaboration between the trade commission and the commission established for labor cooperation."

Following the Free Trade Commission meeting, Ambassador Kirk held bilateral meetings with Canada and Mexico.
