Statement of U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk Welcoming Mexico’s New Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal

Washington, D.C. - United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk today issued a statement of congratulations and welcome to Mexico’s new Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal on the occasion of the inauguration of new Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

“Mexico is not only a close neighbor to the United States but a valued trading partner. The economic ties that our nations first solidified in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) will further strengthen and deepen with Mexico’s participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The Office of the United States Trade Representative looks forward to working with Secretary Guajardo Villarreal and the administration of President Peña Nieto to advance TPP negotiations starting in Auckland, New Zealand today toward a successful conclusion, which will support innovation, competitiveness and economic expansion in both countries and further enhance our countries’ abiding bilateral economic ties.”
