Readout of Ambassador Tai's Meeting with Mexico's Secretary of Economy Tatiana Clouthier

MEXICO CITY – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today held a bilateral meeting with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Tatiana Clouthier. The meeting was held during Ambassador Tai’s visit to Mexico City for trilateral events to mark the one-year anniversary of the entry into force of the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA).
 
Ambassador Tai began the meeting by thanking Secretary Clouthier for hosting the USMCA anniversary meetings in-person in Mexico City. The Ambassador reiterated the importance of ongoing cooperation and collaboration, including with respect to the USMCA’s rapid response mechanism. Ambassador Tai and Secretary Clouthier discussed how our countries will continue working to implement the prohibition on importing goods produced with forced labor. They also agreed on the importance of achieving a meaningful outcome in the WTO fisheries subsidies negotiations.

Ambassador Tai and Secretary Clouthier highlighted ongoing cooperation on environmental issues including, marine litter, the transshipment of illegally harvested timber, and fisheries.

They agreed to stay in regular communication, including after Ambassador Tai meets tomorrow with Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Luisa Alcalde, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard.
